Lidl have been training 300 staff for the past year in preparation for the opening of up to 20 stores on the island. 7 stores opened today, 3 in Nicosia, 2 in Larnaka, 1 in Limassol and the Paralimni store and I believe more are to follow in the coming weeks and months.
The Paralimni store is opposite Sports Direct and next to Laika / Marfin bank by the 'largest roundabout on the island' as you head out towards Dherynia.
I have the first leaflet here which promotes the stores and includes their current offers but much of it is in Greek / Cypriot but what I can see looks impressive. Breadmaker €33, indoor / outdoor digital thermometer (with clock) as Brits are paranoid about knowing the precise temperature on their holidays €2.99, clock radio €5.99 (watch out PopLife), digital scales so you can check your luggage weight €9.99, slippers as the tiled floors are freezing in winter €2.99.
On to the food and drink items:
Cornflakes (not Kellogs) 500 gr €0.99
Orang juice 1.5 ltr €0.88
Cabernet Sauvignon 0.75l (2 for 1) €2.99
Cola 2 litres €0.55
Fresh pineapples 1.1kg €0.99
Bananas per kilo €0.77
Carrots per kilo €0.44
Briefly checked their website and it may be useful for guests planning to stay at Armonia to seek out the latest offers before they arrive - see http://www.lidl.com.cy (available in English and Greek).
I haven't been inside the store yet but have cycled / driven past it several times in recent weeks and it looks to have ample parking spaces. Although at these prices it will need them
Hats off to Lidl and hope all goes well for them in Cyprus. I might even pop up to see if they are recruiting more staff, perhaps in the corporate marketing department.
